Financial advisers

So, you think you’ve got what it takes to be a financial adviser at HBOS? Let’s put that to the test.

Our financial advisers are an integral part of our branches’ success. They not only sell across our amazing product range, they contribute to the way we do business too.

It's from listening to them that we got rid of our initial charges on investments, and still don't apply exit charges. It was them that inspired our superb point of sale system – one that enhances customer experience, reduces paperwork and simplifies systems. And it’s them who continually beat the targets we set them, the expectations our clients lay down and their own incredibly high standards.

To join them, you’ll need more than just relevant experience. You’ll need ambition, resilience and drive – all those words that add up to make you a real contender.

So, just how experienced do you need to be? What are the ins and outs of the role? Where will you be based? And what support will you have?

Find out the answers to these questions and more.

Just how ‘experienced’ do I need to be?

Basically, we’re looking for fully qualified advisors (those with a FPC 123 or CeFA 123 qualification – who’ve either achieved Competent Advisor status or have it pending). People with a proven experience in a sales environment. The top 10% who can create and take sales opportunities but always put their customers’ needs first. Well, we did say we were quite demanding.

If you really are the best of the best, consistently exceed targets and can prove you’re a high flyer, then why don't you let us call you.

So you've got this far – why not let us help you out. Complete and submit the details below and one of our Halifax Recruitment team will call you for an informal, confidential chat to discuss why the best should want to work for the best:

I’m not quite experienced enough. What other roles are open to me?

Plenty. We have a range of branch-based roles to help you make the most of your talents. Plus we also run a very successful 'Pathway to PFA' programme, which offers colleagues from across the business the chance to develop into a successful personal financial adviser. So, even if you don’t have the right skills for the role at the moment, you soon could have.

Why become a financial adviser at HBOS?

Now, you obviously know what a financial adviser does. But we like to think there are a few extra advantages to our roles. For starters, you’ll be based in one of our busy high-street branches. Here you’ll be able to drive sales opportunities by working closely with your branch colleagues; motivating them and helping them to recognise situations where they could recommend customers to you for more info. You’ll have a fantastic range of market-leading products to work with. And you’ll have access to a tailor-made computer system that’s been designed to make the whole sales process more effective. No wonder our advisers are such high performers.

What will my working environment be like?

As mentioned, you’ll be based in one of our high-street branches. It’s a busy, bustling environment. People of all ages and backgrounds pop in to get expert financial advice and you’ll be on-hand to match the right products to their needs. The great thing about working in a branch is that you’ll have plenty of support around you. Everyone will want you to do well, as your sales performance will impact on branch targets and ultimately contribute towards everyone’s annual bonus.

How much support will I get?

Loads. To start with, you’ll receive a comprehensive induction to the business, including in-depth training on our full range of products. You’ll then enjoy regular catch-ups with one of our senior personal financial advisers, receive advice and input from your Area Manager, and gain access to our PFA Academy. This specialist learning resource supports a variety of courses and online learning, as well as offering a range of support to help you achieve your advanced financial qualifications.

You mentioned an induction. What will that involve?

An initial two-day event will introduce you to who we are and what we do. It will also give you the opportunity to work with your line manager to put together a personal development plan. Once these two days are finished, you’ll start working through six knowledge modules (tailored to take into account your existing knowledge) which will bring you up-to-date on our products and services. After you’ve completed these, you’ll have the chance to put your knowledge to the test by spending a week practicing your interview techniques in various role play situations. This will ensure you’re fully prepared for any questions your customers might throw at you. You’ll then spend three to four weeks working in a branch alongside a senior adviser before joining your own branch.

Where could I be working?

Hopefully we’ll have an opportunity near where you live right now. To find out, apply to become one of our fantastic financial advisers. Good luck.
